Fastpacking the Tour du Mont-Blanc with Willie McBride

Posted on

The Tour du Mont-Blanc is the most famous trail running loop in the world, and for good reason. Wandering over mountain trails from France, to Italy, to Switzerland and back into France, the footpath includes some of the most iconic mountain terrain anywhere. We’ll “fastpack” the route, bringing lightweight gear with us, enabling the group to spend the night at remote mountain huts, high in the mountains.

Our special guest on this trip is pro trail running coach and athlete, Willie McBride. Willie is no stranger to trail running in the Alps, and has completed both the 200-mile long Tor des Géants and Swiss Peaks 380km trail races. Willie is founder of Portland, Oregon’s The Wellness Movement for All, a coaching and fitness service. He’s a thoughtful advocate for inclusiveness in trail running and is known for his supportive, empathetic approach.

Willie has years of experience on the Tour du Mont-Blanc, having trail run and fastpacked the route for more than a decade. He’s excited to share his trail running experience in the Alps on this adventure.

This Essentials Tour is our most affordable way to run this legendary route. Over six days of running, we’ll complete the full 170 km (105 miles) circuit of Mont Blanc and experience awe-inspiring landscapes with glaciers, alpine meadows, and world-famous views. Most nights are spent in shared mountain huts or modest village inns, where hearty meals and rustic charm set the tone. Your luggage is available in Chamonix and Courmayeur. For hut nights, you’ll need to carry a few extra items for the evening. This pared-back overnight style makes this tour both budget-friendly and a bit more adventurous than our other TMB trips. On this level 3 tour, we’ll cover around 15 – 20 miles (24 – 32km) and 3500 – 6000ft (1000 – 2000m) of climbing each day. Joining Willie will be a licensed International Mountain Leader, guiding the way and keeping you safe. Expect big climbs, thrilling descents, and plenty of time on the trail — with the camaraderie of a small group of like-minded runners to share it all.
